Inauguration of Farmers' Hostel, Kisan Samriddhi Sales Outlet and Cardamom Special Blending Unit at KVK, Idukki

The inauguration of the Farmers' Hostel at ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Santhanpara, Idukki, took place on March 9, 2025, marking a significant step toward strengthening agricultural training and farmer support in the region. The hostel is designed to provide a comfortable stay for farmers attending training programs, workshops, and capacity-building initiatives conducted by the KVK. This facility aims to enhance knowledge exchange and skill development among farmers, enabling them to adopt modern agricultural technologies effectively. The Farmers' Hostel was inaugurated by Dr. V. Venkatasubramanian, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Bengaluru, along with Dr. Sushil, Director, NBAIR, Dr. R. Viswanathan, Director, ICAR-ISRI, Lucknow, Dr. P. Govindaraj, Director, ICAR-Sugarcane Breeding Institute, and Ms. Reena Chacko, Chairperson, KVK, Idukki. Each of these dignitaries emphasized the crucial role of well-equipped infrastructure in disseminating scientific knowledge and empowering the farming community. The directors also honored the contractor, engineers, and electricians who contributed to the successful completion of the facility. The hostel is expected to provide farmers with quality accommodation during training programs, facilitating better learning and knowledge exchange. Another major milestone was the inauguration of the IISR Cardamom Special Nutrient Blending Unit, which is licensed by the ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR). The unit was jointly inaugurated by Dr. R. Viswanathan, Director, ICAR-ISRI, Lucknow, Dr. P. Govindaraj, Director, ICAR-Sugarcane Breeding Institute, along with Ms. Reena Chacko. They highlighted the importance of this initiative, especially for Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) farmers, as it ensures the availability of a scientifically formulated nutrient mixture designed to enhance the productivity and health of small cardamom. Additionally, the KVK Sales Counter was inaugurated by Dr. V. Venkatasubramanian and Ms. Reena Chacko. Dr. Venkatasubramanian emphasized the significance of establishing sales outlets within KVKs to promote quality farm inputs, value-added products, and bio-inputs under the Kisan Samriddhi brand. He stressed that such sales counters could directly benefit farmers by ensuring access to authentic and research-backed agricultural products. Dr. R. Marimuthu, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, Idukki, along with the entire KVK staff, were present during the inauguration. The newly launched facilities are expected to significantly enhance the KVK's outreach and service delivery to farmers in the region.
